This is Kajsa's Corner
Welcome. You'll find here a somewhat eclectic collection of nursery rhymes, and other childrens songs. Initially just the lyrics, I do intend to spice things up with actual pictures, some sound samples if I can convince anyone to record any, and perhaps more. We'll see. Design is a little sparse for now, I was more interested in getting the content done. I promise it'll get pretty eventually!
If that's all you need to know, by all means, jump to the links at the left where you'll find the songs listed. If you're interested in how a displaced Kiwi girl came to be hosting a website about Swedish nursery rhymes, read on.
Some years ago, newly moved to Sweden, largely pregnant, and desparately wanting the forthcoming child to "belong" I assigned myself the task of learning some Swedish nursery rhymes.
It was much easier said than done. My Swedish was appalling, and even the simplest of nursery rhymes was an impossible tongue twister. Never mind the fact that I didn't at the time have the faintest idea what any of them were about!
Said child, Kajsa, is 4 now, and we've come a long way since then. I've learnt not only how to pronounce things, but the tunes, and most of the translations, barring a few that are either ancient or so full of slang even a native Swede has trouble translating!
I did notice, that there aren't many places on the net to find the words to these things - so part of the mission of this little site is simply to ease the pain for anyone else out there who finds themselves in my situation.
The other reason for this site, is that nursery rhymes tend towards two polar opposites in theme: Either they are so universal, the words in many languages are virtually identical, which is an interesting phenomenon in and of itself, or, they are so culturally specific, that finding out what the lyrics mean is a fascinating little window into another culture. In this case, it is my adopted culture, and I hope that someone out there finds this site at least a little bit useful.
Thirdly, and far less importantly in the scheme of things, it's a small experiment at turning the Movable Type "blogging" software into a CMS. If that doesn't mean anything to you, please ignore it. If it does, then when I'm satisified I have it all under control, I might even manage to document how I set it all up!
